This game is a project for school called: Deep Dive. In this project, I wanted to learn more about immersion in VR and I wanted to add a game to that. I like the horror game genre and I know some horror games have the friendly game "Simon Says" in them and made it scary. I want to make that in VR with the immersion.
Here, you can find the research about making a "Simon Says" game in VR with the outcomes of the research questions to make the player more immersed
After researching and finding out what the best way is to immerse a player in a horror environment in the form of a "Simon Says" game, I designed the gameplay and I used different elements of the games that I researched in the Research Document.
I started with the development of pressing a physical button in-game.
To give the player pressure to complete the sequence correctly, I added a time element in the shape of a creature crawling in a vent towards the player
If the player presses the correct buttons, the sequence gets longer
If the player presses the wrong buttons, the sequence gets repeated
If the player completes the sequences in time, the door closes and the player is "safe"
If the player does not complete the sequences in time, the player "dies" by being eaten by the crawler
In the beginning of the game the player needs to get in the horror mood, so the player is introduced to the game with a short instruction video on how to play the game. I wanted to let the player feel as if they are in a competition where you can die if you do not succeed in an analog horror style. The player in this game has already "survived" two games and they now play the third game: Game #3.
This is the introduction video that I made and that the player gets to see when they start the game:
In the video above, the full game can be seen where the player "wins"
In the video above, the full game can be found where the player "loses"
